The game is an open world with large battles featuring up to 1,200 players per continent on foot and in land/air vehicles. As in the previous game, players, who represent one of three factions, attempt to control the planet Auraxis by capturing numerous territories. PlanetSide 2 is a re-imagining of PlanetSide, featuring the same world and factions and taking place at roughly the same time period.
